The prime minister of the United Kingdom Mr Tony Blair we associate with the residency of 10 Downing Street – whereas the quarters of the president of the United States of America Mr Bush himself we connect to the famous White House. Since the 1800s the White House has been the official residence of the president of the United States, the White House stands proudly among well maintained gardens located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. Because of its design the building found even more fame by winning a competition in 1792 purely by all its features etc.

It was designed by Irish-American architect James Hoban, whose majestic plan was a fundamental replica of an assignment in James Gibbs's Book of Architecture (1728)?

Changes were to be made to the White House and it was in 1807, when Benjamin Latrobe, sought to better the building. He did this by preparing designs for the erection of pavilions at either end (added that year in collaboration with Thomas Jefferson), for interior alterations, and for porticos on both fronts. Sadly to say our history information tells us that in 1814 the building was set alight and burned down by the British. The construction work took place to rebuild the white House in 1815-17 by Hoban, who also added in 1826 the semicircular South Portico that Latrobe had proposed. Completion came as early as 1829 with Latrobe's rectangular North Portico.

The make over for this famed landmark The White House entailed an extensive programme on the remodelling in (1902) by the firm of McKim, Mead, and White, which also added the East Gallery and the Executive Office Wing. Sometimes it makes you wonder why so many people enrol as a candidate to run for president with living quarters as luxurious.

Not all goes according plan, and in this case the White house suffered setbacks when between 1948 and 1952 the building was deemed structurally unsound – which of course was a danger, so therefore work had to be carried immediately to put things right and make it safe .It was gutted and its interior structure replaced with steel framing, within which the original rooms were reconstructed. Every president since 1961 was to see a difference in the interior decor when moving into office. The first lady of each president had always contributed with additional personal preferences, thus giving a woman’s feel around the place (White House)
